The zipper closure pockets on the chest and bottom, the other two on the shoulders and the forearm pocket provide enough space to put small items and accessories in them, like phones, radios, notepads, etc.
The two side zippers provide an opportunity for the wearer to reach his sidearm and/or other cases and holsters worn on his belt without opening the front zipper of the jacket.
